Conference Goals: This conference will provide a framework for enhancing the implementation of comprehensive state-based Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) systems and programs; enhancing the awareness of national EHDI efforts; and providing opportunities for collaboration, partnership building, and the sharing of successful strategies to address issues of children with hearing loss and their families through panel discussions, poster sessions, and EHDI tracking and surveillance systems, demonstrations, workshops, and networking opportunities.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this conference, participants will be able to:
  1. Promote knowledge and awareness of successful strategies for implementing comprehensive state-based Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs that include screening, audiologic and diagnostic evaluation, early intervention, medical home, reporting, tracking, surveillance, lost to follow up issues, data integration, and other related surveillance components.
  2. Share current research and research methods related to EHDI.
  3. Improve cultural competence of providers and their ability to work with children who have a hearing loss, their families, and communities.
  4. Enhance and develop new and ongoing working relationships among federal agencies, non-profit organizations, state health departments and educational agencies, advocacy groups, families, and professionals.
